The Bike MS Toyota Best Dam Bike RideWisconsin Bike MS: Best Dam Bike Ride 2011bike MS

On August 6th and 7th Komisar Brady’s very own Kamikaze Bean Counter bicycle team finished their eighteenth year of riding in the Bike MS: Best Dam Bike Ride. The Best Dam Bike Ride consists of riding 75 miles on day one from Waukesha to Whitewater with wonderful overnight accommodations in the Whitewater dorms. The second day consists of another 75 miles from Whitewater to Madison. This year’s ride consisted of over 1,500 riders who have already raised over $1.5 million for Multiple Sclerosis research.

Bike MS is a fully-supported, two-day event that brings cyclists and volunteers together to move toward a cure. Cyclists choose to ride 62.5, 75 or 100 miles each day, while making an extraordinary difference in the lives of more than 400,000 people throughout the U.S. living with multiple sclerosis.

Both days this year got to be warm and muggy with highs in the upper 80’s. Day two was delayed about an hour due to thunderstorms, but after those passed it was nothing but sunny skies and warm weather.

This year’s team was smaller than prior years, 15 total with 4 being Komisar Brady employees. The Komisar Brady riders were, with years rode in parentheses; Edward Brady (20), Kevin Smith (9), Evan Ott (3) and Kathy Bennett (2). The Kamikaze Bean Counters have already raised over $10,000 and hope to reach their goal of raising $15,000.

UPAF's Ride for the Arts

Komisar Brady's company bicycling team, The Kamikaze BeanCounters, comprised of various staff, friends, and family participated again in the United Performing Arts Fund's Annual Ride for the Arts on June 5, 2011.

It is UPAF’s largest fund-raising event sponsored by Miller Lite. For the first time in decades, the 2011 route directed riders over the Hoan Bridge. UPAF had an increase in riders of approximately 7,000 in this year’s event along with 170 teams, and over 350 volunteers.

Since its inception in 1981, the ride has enjoyed outstanding success with over 256,000 riders in the 30 year run and raised more than $7 million for performing arts groups in southeastern Wisconsin. This year, the ride raised more than $330,000.

Riders chose from five routes, ranging from five miles to 75 miles, and the ride culminates with a finish line party at the Henry Maier Festival Grounds. The event features performances by UPAF's member and affiliate groups, including the Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra, Latino Strings, and students of Danceworks and Mad Hot Ballroom and Tap.

The Kamikaze BeanCounters are saving the date for next year's Ride which will be Sunday, June 3, 2012!

2011 American Cancer Society’s
Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk

The American Cancer Society Making Strides events raise funds and awareness to fight breast cancer and provides hope to people facing the disease. Since 1993, nearly 7 million walkers have raised more than $400 million through the American Cancer Society Making Strides events. In 2010 alone, nearly 800,000 walkers across the country collected more than $60 million to help create a world with less breast cancer and more birthdays. One of the ways the American Cancer Society is saving lives is by finding cures through groundbreaking research. The Society invests more in breast cancer research than in any cancer type. In 2010, an estimated 207,100 women in the United States were diagnosed with invasive breast cancer and about 39,800 women were expected to die from the disease. About 1,970 men in the United States were diagnosed with breast cancer.

Mary Buchert, Katie Buchert, & Jenni Bieck

Jenni’s sister Katie was diagnosed with breast cancer November 2006 at 22 years old. Katie had a rough battle with cancer but nonetheless displayed her hope, courage and strength which inspired many people. Katie lost her battle against cancer on October 22, 2010. With her spirit in mind, Katie’s family and friends continue to support the American Cancer Society to “make strides toward a world with more birthdays."

The 2011 American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk was held Saturday, May 7, 2011. Jenni Bieck and her team raised over $2,400 and counting!

Please help us raise money for breast cancer research and awareness.
Donations may be made payable to “The American Cancer Society” or online.

Feed Your Soul 2011 Charity Event

On November 4, 2011, Feed Your Soul raised $46,495. Now in its 8th year, Feed Your Soul has raised over $280,000. Feed Your Soul is a charitable art auction to raise funds for Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin. As a symbol of plenty, simple wooden bowls are transformed by members of Milwaukee’s art and design community into innovative works of art; while other artists donate their artwork. The bowls and donated, original artwork are highlighted at this celebration and silent auction on the first Friday in November every year.

The event was created 8 years ago under the direction of the Wisconsin Chapters of the American Institute of Architects (AIA), the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID), the Construction Specifications Institute (CSI) and the International Interior Design Association (IIDA), and Flux Design. Feed Your Soul has been made possible thanks to the leadership of a talented group of interior design and architecture professionals who donate their time to make this event happen.

All proceeds benefit Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin, the largest food bank in Wisconsin. Every $1 donated provides five meals to those in need - serving 330,000 people annually, 32% of whom are children. To serve such a large number of people, Feeding America partners with 1,000 food pantries, meal programs, and shelters throughout eastern Wisconsin.
