Community Involvement

Komisar Brady's involvement in the community is a source of pride for partners and employees alike. Here are a few events and organizations that our company supports.

Working Together to Make a Difference
Komisar Brady & Co., LLP - DAY OF GIVING COA - August 31, 2010
COA Youth & Family Center, Milwaukee

In memory of Ben Komisar, and in celebration of our 50 years of service to the community, we at KBCO are having a “Day of Giving” where all of our staff will roll up our sleeves and give a day of our labor and assistance to a very deserving charity. On August 31, 2010, we will be at the COA Youth & Family Center, helping with various projects such as landscaping, painting and anything else we can do to help.

The Personal Relief Society, precursor to the Children's Outing Association and now known as COA Youth & Family Centers, was founded in 1906 to operate a camp for the needy immigrant Jewish children of Milwaukee.

Today, COA Youth & Family Centers provides non-sectarian camping and year round programs including early education, a family center, GED training and youth leadership development. Much has changed over the years, but the goal of COA has always been to enhance the lives of children and families in the Milwaukee community.

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.”
-Margaret Mead

The Bike MS Toyota Best Dam Bike Ride

Wisconsin Bike MS: Best Dam Bike Ride 2010bike MS

Komisar Brady's company team, The Kamikaze Beancounters, participated in the Bike MS Toyota Best Dam Bike Ride 2010 on August 7-8, 2010. The 2010 team was the largest on record with 26 riders, including employees, friends, and relatives. Our 2010 team included 8 rookie riders and 6 alumni who did not ride in 2009, with the whole team celebrating firm Partner Ed Brady’s 20th ride. Ed has tentatively indicated 2010 was his final year on the team, but we are holding hope that he may delay his retirement and rejoin the team next year.

Bike MS is a fully-supported, two-day event that brought nearly 2,000 cyclists and volunteers together to move toward a cure. Cyclists choose to ride 62.5, 75 or 100 miles each day, while making an extraordinary difference in the lives of more than 400,000 people throughout the U.S. living with multiple sclerosis. Early returns show that the 2010 Beancounters have raised more than $8,000 as of the date of the ride and we hope to reach the $15,000 before we are through. Please see our team page; Kamikaze Beancounters to track our progress and read more about our team members.

The Saturday ride started bright and early at Waukesha County Technical College in Pewaukee, Wisconsin, with 75 degree temperatures and a beautiful sunny sky. While the day warmed up quite a bit, that didn’t stop 22 riders from completing the 75 mile route and 4 riders from completing the 100 mile century loop! Sunday was a different story with consistent rain, wind, thunderstorms, and even some escaped horses on the trail who were spooked by riders. Nonetheless, our team braved the elements and performed admirably for the conditions.

Look for more ride photos coming soon, and for the Kamikaze Beancounters again in 2011 on August 6 and 7!

UPAF's Ride for the ArtsUPAF's Ride for the Arts

Sponsored by Miller Lite, the annual ride - the United Performing Arts Fund's largest fund-raising event – started and ended Sunday, June 6, 2010 at Maier Festival Park, after years of starting in front of the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts. There were approximately 6,000 participants in the ride.

Komisar Brady's company bicycling team, The Kamikaze BeanCounters, participated in the ride, with a total of 23 riders.

Since its inception in 1981, the ride has raised more than $6.7 million for performing arts groups in southeastern Wisconsin. Last year, the ride raised more than $324,000.

Riders chose from five routes, ranging from five miles to 75 miles. This year's changes included a new route for the 12-mile course, which took bikers west on the Menomonee Valley Parkway to Miller Park and featured a rest stop at the Harley-Davidson Museum. There were new oasis stops at Miller Park as well.

The event also featured performances on two stages by UPAF's member and affiliate groups, including the Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra, Latino Strings, and students of Danceworks and Mad Hot Ballroom and Tap. There were plenty of other activities, including a new instrument "petting zoo," which allows children to get up close and personal with musical instruments.

2010 American Cancer Society’s
Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk

The American Cancer Society Making Strides events raise funds and awareness to fight breast cancer and provides hope to people facing the disease. Since 1993, nearly 6 million walkers have raised more than $400 million through the American Cancer Society Making Strides events. In 2009 alone, nearly 700,000 walkers across the country collected more than $60 million to help create a world with less breast cancer and more birthdays. One of the ways the American Cancer Society is saving lives is by finding cures through groundbreaking research. The Society invests more in breast cancer research than in any cancer type. In 2009, an estimated 192,370 women in the United States were diagnosed with invasive breast cancer and about 40,610 women were expected to die from the disease. About 1,910 men in the United States were diagnosed with breast cancer.

Mary Buchert, Katie Buchert, & Jenni Bieck

Jenni’s sister Katie was diagnosed with breast cancer November 2006 at 22 years old. Katie has had a rough battle with cancer, and not just breast cancer. In May 2008 she was diagnosed with brain cancer and has had 3 surgeries to remove tumors plus additional treatments. On March 19, 2010 she was diagnosed with bone cancer.

The 2010 American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk was held May 1, 2010. Jenni Bieck and her team raised $2,385!

Please help us raise money for breast cancer research and awareness.
Donations may be made payable to “The American Cancer Society” or online.
