We are privileged to have a longstanding relationship with the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee’s accounting faculty and Career Services department and typically have 5-6 interns each year from UWM. We also recruit on campus in the fall for full-time positions starting in January and September each year, and keep in touch with UWM Career Services throughout the year. We have over ten full-time Panther graduates on staff, including partners Kathryn Bennett and Robin Martin.
Because of our close ongoing relationship with UWM, the best way for UWM students and alumni to contact us is through the PantherJobs website. This is the starting point for internships, part-time employment, and full-time career placement.
In addition to on campus recruiting, we have invested in a number of UWM Accounting Department and Career Services initiatives over the years, including Accounting Night, the Intermediate Accounting Forum, mock interviews and classroom presentations to accounting students.
On-campus recruiting
We recruit at UWM each September for full-time permanent positions to help our growing need for talented professionals. We look for independent, hard working, and innovative students who seek the opportunity to work on all business sizes and truly make a difference from the start. Our business clients are generally owned five or fewer individuals and have both personal and business ties to the community. To find staff to best serve these clients, we focus our recruiting on a balance of Midwest values, personal commitment, educational excellence, work experience, and cultural fit in our search for the right individuals for a long-term career with Komisar Brady.
Accounting Night
Beta Alpha Psi, UWM’s accounting fraternity, sponsors Accounting Night each fall as an opportunity for all accounting and finance majors to meet employers to discuss various industries, career paths, internship opportunities and how their education will serve as the cornerstone of their career development. Komisar Brady has actively participated in Accounting Night for over 15 years as the best opportunity we have to present our industry, firm and careers to students. We are proud of the many careers we have helped develop over the years and Accounting Night is also an opportunity for us to reconnect with former interns and associates who have moved to other firms or industries.
Intermediate Accounting Forum
While most employers first touch base with accounting students in their third or fourth year, we look to invest in students’ career development sooner as an opportunity to help them understand their career options and how their accounting curriculum will lead into their respective careers. This philosophy led us to work with accounting professors in 2006 to establish the Intermediate Accounting Forum. This event is held each semester for students in their 2nd or 3rd semester of accounting classes and has been an outstanding resource for us to get to know students as individuals rather than as recruits.
The fall 2009 UWM Intermediate Accounting Forum was held December 11th and was a great success. We were able to make “first contact” with over 40 future accountants to provide information about the accounting profession, public accounting careers, and our firm’s internship opportunities. We were also able to reconnect with other area accounting employers and firm alumni who have developed successful careers elsewhere.
Mock interviews and classroom presentations
We have participated in mock interview sessions through Career Services in recent years to help students understand the recruiting process in a low-stress environment. We provide constructive feedback to help students get through their first real interview a little more relaxed. Over the years we have also spoken to groups of accounting students about career opportunities in public accounting, designed classroom presentations on specific topics, and provided real life audit situations as teaching tools to auditing classes.

We have recruited for many years at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, which has developed into one of the strongest accounting programs in the country. Our ties to Whitewater include participation in the Accounting Career Fair, full-time internship opportunities each tax season, and on-campus recruiting. We have several Warhawk graduates with the firm, including partner Michael Burzynski.
Accounting Career Fair
UWW’s Accounting and Career Services Departments established the Accounting Career Fair in 2007, which grew to more than 50 employers and 300 students in 2008. It is an excellent opportunity for students nearing completion of their accounting degree to touch base with employers, network with alumni, and learn about the many accounting career options and industries. Look for us to return in 2010.
Full-time internship opportunities
Each fall, Komisar Brady recruits on-campus to place at least one Whitewater student in a full-time accounting/audit intern position with the firm for busy season. This internship programs affords us the ability to provide real-world accounting and audit experience to students nearing completion of their accounting degrees. In a world of increased complexity and accounting regulations, full-time interns are able to apply their excellent educational foundation in practical situations. Because of our close relationship with UWW, the best way to contact us regarding our full-time UWW internship is through HawkQuest.
On-campus recruiting
Every fall, we come to Whitewater to recruit for full-time permanent positions with the firm to help our growing need for talented professionals. We look for independent, hard working, and innovative students who seek the opportunity to work on all business sizes and truly make a difference from the start. Extremely large firms hire several graduates each year into an environment with 90% employee turnover in the first 3 years of employment; conversely, we focus on a balance of personality, educational excellence, work experience, and cultural fit in our search for the right individuals for a long-term career with Komisar Brady.
